Context

blankt is a web-based poster generator that allows users without design skills to create their own posters.

My role

I developed a custom brand typeface derived from the blankt logo and built it for use across the website and poster generator, ensuring consistency between brand identity and user-generated content.

Concept

The blankt logo was the starting point. blankt creates decorative posters for interiors, so the typeface needed to reflect that, functional but with an elegant, sophisticated quality. With Art Deco as the aesthetic direction in mind, I stripped the letterforms down to their geometric core and went directly from brief to design in Glyphs.

Process

The work involved close collaboration with the art director, iterating on every letterform before moving into spacing and kerning rounds. Translating non-specialist feedback into concrete type decisions was a core part of the work.

Result

A complete, production-ready typeface. My first professional typeface designed from scratch.
